Aletha Solter
Aletha Solter, Ph.D. is a Swiss/American developmental psychologist, author of four books, and founder of The Aware Parenting Institute. She studied with Dr. Jean Piaget in Switzerland, where she obtained a Master's degree in human biology. She holds a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of California. Dr. Solter is recognized internationally as an expert on emotional development and non-punitive discipline. Her books have been translated into many languages, and she has given talks and led workshops for parents and professionals in twelve countries. She lives in Goleta, California and is the mother of two grown children. The titles of her books are The Aware Baby, Helping Young Children Flourish, Tears and Tantrums, and Raising Drug-Free Kids.
Ba and Josette Luvmour
Geoffrey “Ba” Luvmour and Josette Luvmour, each have more than 20 years of professional experience. Together they created Natural Learning Rhythms, a unique and powerful formulation of human development and family systems, with wide ranging applications in education (curriculum and pedagogy), family relationships (inclusive of all family members), social justice (from environmental education to prejudice) and community empowerment. Their work has garnered international acclaim from professionals and parents alike. They have presented at national and international conferences. Between them they have authored six books and numerous articles on a wide range of education and family-centered subjects.
Ba received his MA from University of California, Sonoma State in 1983. A respected family and organizational consultant, he regularly appears on radio programs in Oregon. He is a member of the Agora steering committee of City Club and central to its educational programs. He is currently Executive Director of EnCompass Institute.
Josette is Director of Family and Professional Development at EnCompass Institute. She has pioneered the field of whole family experiential learning and created many successful programs that have touched thousands of families. With her BA in Psychology, Josette has received her M.A. in Human Development from Fielding Graduate University, where she currently works toward her Ph.D. Her scholarly work centers on adult development when in relationship with the child. For her dissertation research, Josette is exploring how the interrelationship of nurturing development in the child leads the emergence of new-meaning and self-knowledge in the adult. Sheila Murphy
Dr. Sheila Murphy, M.A., D.C., is a bodypsychotherapist, chiropractor and teacher. She has pioneered a body of work called Infant Bodypsychotherapy which evolved from her years of working with traumatized infants and their families. She has an M.A. in Wholistic Education, a psychosynthesis based education model. She earned her doctorate in chiropractic from Western States Chiropractic College. She has also completed the Bodynamics Foundation, Practitioner and Analysis trainings by Lizbeth Marcher from Copenhagen, Denmark. She has extensive training in craniopathy and various manual medicine modalities. Since 1980 she has been a bodypsychotherapist working with the interface of the emotional-energetic-physical bodies in infants, children, adults and animals. She has always been fascinated with how the body organizes compensation patterns as a result of traumatic and developmental wounding and how resourceful the body can be when given the appropriate contact. She teaches trainings for professionals in Infant Bodypsychotherapy. Her private practice focuses on the identification and healing of birth wounds and early traumas in infants. Dr. Murphy is a faculty member at the National College of Natural Medicine. Her private practice is in Portland, Oregon.
